Debate Tournament Utrecht

The Debate Tournament Utrecht (DTU – Debattoernooi Utrecht) is the second oldest large debate tournament of the Netherlands. Since 1998, it is organised annually by the Utrecht Debating Society (UDS).

History

The tournament held the status of Dutch Debating Championships (colloquially called NK after the Dutch “Nederlands Kampioenschap”) three times, in 2001, 2004, and 2008. The DTU was held in the AP-style until 2011 after which it switched to BP. Until 2003, the tournament was organized under the name of the UDS Toernooi. In 2020 and 2021, the tournament was not organized. In its place, the UDS organized the NK around the same time, which had to be moved due to the corona crisis.
