The first edition was organised under the name of “GDS Mini’s”. Until 2020, the Kalliope Groningen Open was a Dutch-language BP tournament organised under the name of Kalliope Debattoernooi (KDT). 2020 was going to be the first time it would be organised in English, but it was canceled due to government regulations during the Corona pandemic. The tournament has traditionally been organised in May, at the same time as the Groninger fair.
