The first edition was organized under the name of “GDS Mini’s”. Until 2020, the Kalliope Groningen Open was a Dutch-language BP tournament organized under the name of Kalliope Debattoernooi (KDT). 2020 was going to be the first time it would be organized in English, but it was canceled due to government regulations during the Corona pandemic. In 2021, it was organized online for the first time. The tournament has traditionally been organized in May, at the same time as the Groninger fair.
