The Leiden Open is organised by the Leiden Debating Union since 2005. This BP-style tournament was held in the Dutch language in 2005, 2006 (fall) and 2010. All other editions were held in English. In 2010, the tournament hosted the Dutch Debating Championships (NK); this was the first time the NK was held in the British Parliamentary format. The first three editions took place under the name Leidsch Open. In 2012, the LDU, together with the Erasmus Debating Society, organised the first edition of the Dutch Open, a continuation of the Leiden Open and Rotterdam Open. In 2021 the tournament took place online, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
